The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Adam Hamilton) passed through Dunedin by the express from Christchurch on Saturday on his return to Invercargill. , Mr C. V- Day us, district superintendent of the live stock division,Department of Agriculture, left by the south express ths mornng for Otautau, Mr F. W. Mitchell and Mr W. I. Abel were passengers by the north express' to-day, bound for Wellington. Dr J. Thomson, medical superintendent at the Dunedin Hospital, left this morning for Wellington to attend the British Medical Association Conference The Hon. F. Waite, M.L.C., and Mr E. H. Murney travelled by the express to-day to attend a meeting or the Farmers’ Union Executive at Wellington. Mr N. C. Snedden, one of the New Zealand cricket selectors, left this mornington on his return to Auckland. . , Professor S. J. Trusoott arrived by air on Saturday on a brief visit. He is emeritus professor of mining at the University of London, and examiner in mining to the University of New Zealand, a position he has held for the last 12 years. He has not previously visited New Zealand, and has come to Dunedin to make contact with the mining faculty. Professor Truscott will return north by air to-morrow to rejoin the Tamaroa for England. A cable message from London states that the ‘ Daily Telegraph ’ understands that the engagement will be announced shortly between Lord William Scott, M.P., the Duchess of Gloucester’s brother, aged 26 years, and Lady Rachel Douglas Home, the daughter of the Earl of Home. Lord William Scott is the Duke of Gloucester’s most intimate friend. Mr George A. Thomson has been awarded a veterinary bursary tenable for three years at the Sydney University, and will leave for Sydney early in March. Professor Maxwell Walker, professor of French at the Auckland University College, who was recently seriously ill in a private hospital in Wellington, returned to Auckland on Friday. Rev. H. R. Turner, after five and a-half years at Roslyn, has accepted a call to the South Dunedin Baptist Church. Latest guests at the Grand Hotel - , are Mrs J.
