AUSTRALIAN CRICKET

TWO VACANCIES IN TEST TEAM SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH OF UNUSUAL INTEREST Press Association-By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, February 19. In the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia New South Wales in the first innings has lost eight wickets for 317 (Fingleton 1, Robinson 47, M‘Oabe 39, Barnes 31, Oldfield not out 58, White not out 78). The weather was delightful and the wicket good. The match has unusual interest owing to the approach of the final test, when two vacancies in the Australian team are to be filled, for which five possibles are taking part, including Lush and Cotton, the fast bowlers. The former has definite claims, being an all-rounder. Bradman, being a selector, has full opportunity, as captain of the South Australians, of judging the merits of the candidates. New South Wales wickets fell rapidly in the morning, but a fine partnership by Oldfield and White saved the situation.
