GERMANY.—In many Bavarian towns, the inhabitants exist solely upon the results of their handicraft. in some cases a town will specialise in producing one particular type of article, the favourite specialty being toys, one town making rocking horses, another concentrating on wooden railway engines. Even the children participate in the work, which is performed both in the home and in small factories. Here, a little girl is putting the finishing touches to some dolls which will be stored in readiness for the next Christmas trade.
