HEARING THE WORLD

DX NEWS FROM EVERYWHERE SIGNALS FROM AMERICA. Very little difference has been noticed in tho volume of the early morning American stations, which have maintained their high standard, but no further calls can bo added to the list which appeared in this column last Saturday. The evening Americans, too, have continued to provide signals equal to that of last week, but as yet only the higher powered ones are coming through NEW AUSTRALIAN REGIONAL, If anything, tho Australians have iniproved in volume, resulting in much easier loggings. Another new station will soon be adding its voice to Australia s huge array of stations. This is the now west regional station, 3WV, which has been heard testing on 580 kc and, as may be expected from a power of 10,000 watts, provides an excellent signal Recognised as the hardest Australian station to log, 4VL, Charloville, Queensland, is providing rare opportunities by continuing well after its Friday night scheduled closing time, relaying a dance programme. They close at approximately 1.45 a.m. on Saturday (hew Zealand time). This is indeed a rare chance, as 4VL’s high-powered frequency rival —2WL, Wollongong, N.s.W.—closes at midnight, thereby leaving the former a clear channel for well over an hour and a-half. Rumour had it that 4VL was to change its frequency, but from advice received it appears this, is not so.
