MOSCOW AND SPAIN The part played by Moscow in the Spanish revolution has come sharply to the fore in a conflict which had as its upshot the reorganisation of the Catalan Cabinet, with the elimination from it of the so-called ‘ Trotskista ’ (Trotskyist) party, the P.O.U.M. (Partido Obrera de Unificacion Marxista), writes the Barcelona correspondent of ‘ The Times.’ The P.O.U.M. asserts that the change took place at the dictation of Moscow, whence orders were given.for the party to be crushed by the same ruthless methods as were employed against the in Russia. If these allegations are true, Catalonia, whose programme of collectivization has now advanced so far that she may be described as Western Europe’s first Communist State, .now takes her political orders from Moscow under the threat that if she does, not do so Russia will “ abandon us, leaving us without arms or munitions before the criminal hordes of Franco.” Solicitor (in country court): “ Don’t you think you are straining a point in your explanation?” Witness: “Perhaps I am, but you often have to strain things to make them clear.” Take no risk* with sunburn when you are suntanning—apply TANKIST before exposure to the sun. Prevents sunburn. Quickly produces a rich brown suntan. Sharlaud’s, Wholesale Distributors. —[Advt.]
