COOL AND CHANGEABLE The following weather report waa issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts: Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay>—• A ridge of relatively high pressure extends from Tasmania north-eastwards ta beyond northern New Zealand, while pressure is still rather low to the south and south-east, and a series of slight depressions continues to come from the westward. Forecast: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds, decreasing gradually.' Weather cool and changeable, with scattered local' showers, but mainly fair to fine. Seas rough, but moderating. NO IMPROVEMENT. A strong and gusty south-westerly wind prevailed yesterday, and, although no rain fell until late in the evening, conditions were ’ very unpleasant with cold temperatures, rain appearing imminent at all times. This morning broke ’ fine, with the strong south-westerly again in evidence* Though the sky was rather overcast, sunshine was apparent at intervals, and a general improvement in conditions was ’ noticeable. Barometris pressure was rising at 29.6 in at noon, when the respective maximum ana minimum temperatures' were 50 and 40 degrees. were recorded'at the same time, while the registrations over a 24-hour period were 64.7 and .40deg.' Indications at noon were. favourable, hut the afternoon belied this promise.
