R. Brough) reported that the letter had been received during the recess and a subcommittee consisting of Dr Thompson, Mr J. Robertson, and himself had prepared answers to the proposals of the Parliamentary Committee. ~( T „ . The secretary (Mr C. R. ,M Lean) said that letters had been received from the Gisborne and Timaru High Schools Boards on the matter. The former had merely forwarded a newspaper report, while the latter opposed the unification of control. Its sub-committee was also strongly opposed to unificationThe report of the sub-committee was approved and it was decided that a ■copy be sent to the departent. The secretary said that a letter had also been received from the Auckland Grammar School with a copy of its commment. On the whole, the coment agreed with that of the Otago subcommittee, but there were some particulars in’which it did not agree. Mr J. C. H. Somerville said he personally did not agree with all the comment of the Otago sub-committee s report. He could assure them they were going to have a change in the system, but he was of the opinion that the reports received from the various educational bodies in the Dominion wou d differ to such an extent that they would be of no use at all. Dr Thompson said that at present all that was required was to give the secondary schools an opportunity to put forward their cases. The secretary said that the boards ot the secondary schools were merely required to approve or disapprove of the various clauses. The discussion then ended.
