GROW IVY IN TWIN MANTEL POTS
With a little care and attention, ivy can be grown in twin pots on the fireplace mantel despite the fact that it gets but little sun. It is important to see that it is watered liberally and
kept free from dust. Watch it carefully for any scale that might develop, for it can be controlled if taken in time with a soapy emulsion. Ivy makes an attractive mantel decoration.
more difficulties to contend with than was the case 20 years ago; there are great differences to-day in the way in which a building must be designed and carried out. New problems in regard to heating, ventilation, acoustics, and lighting, and many other things have to be dealt with which did not exist 20 years ago. We have therefore all the more reason to be proud of the architects who can undertake a job, visualise what is required, and carry it through in such a way as to meet the requirements of all the different specialists in regard to ventilation and so on. In these circumstances, if the architect makes a mistake, I think that it is excusable, and probably you architects will agree with me when I say that. “Of all the great improvements which we enjoy in our new building, after putting up with our old one for many years, the greatest is perhaps this: that so much thought has been given to the comfort of the staff. Wo used our old Town Hall up to the limit, but there came a time when we wanted to engage an office boy, and we found there was nowhere to pub him —there was nowhere for him to go. Then Mr TJren came along and provided us with this new building.”.
