DISTRICT NURSING
ROSLYN ASSOCIATION At ihe monthly meeting of _ the Ros-. lyu District Nursing Association there were present Mr J. Moir (chairman), Mesdames A. R. Falconer. L. Chapman, J. Whyte, A. Chisman, H. W. Bundle, Misses E. Rutherford, F. A. Wilkinson, J. Robertson, Dr A. R. Falconer, Messrs W. J. Davie and J. 11. Matheson. The district nurse’s report showed that a busy time had been experienced during December and January. Various parcels had been sent to the rooms, and these had been appreciated. The sales of goods will be resumed on Friday, March 5, and will he held on the first and third Fridays from two to 3.30. For these sales gifts of clothing, shoes, jam, etc., would be acceptable, the proceeds being used for the expenses of the association. Dr Falconer, who had investigated the working of the Queen’s Institute of Nursing in various centres in England, gave a detailed - acccount of its organisation. A certificated nurse, he said, had to undertake extra training before becoming a Queen’s nurse. Each centre was organised on a provident contributory basis, and was self-snp-portiug and self-controlled to a certain extent, but was under the supervision of a central executive. _ Payment for the services of the district nurses varied slightly in different centres. In Oxford, for example, the charge for a family was 4s per year, or less than Id per week for incomes under £250; 8s a year, or less than 2d per week for incomes under £400; wageearners over 16 years, if single and living with their parents, who were members, pay Is 6d a year. Necessitous cases were treated free. Members must be financial for three months before they received free nursing treatment. District nursing organisations along those lines -had been operating successfully for many years in Great Britain (Queen’s Jubilee District Nurses) and in Canada (the Victoria Order of iNurses), as well as in Victoria, where the Bush Nursing Association was doing useful work.
