MOTOR TRAFFIC
SIGNALS IN STUART STREET ABOLITION OF MONT-HAND TURN ON RED On the subject of traffic control lights the General Committee of tho City Council reports:— In order to conform to the requirements of the regulations recently issued by the Government dealing with street traffic, it is necessary to make certain alterations to the local regulations dealing with the mechanical traffic signals in Stuart street. This will involve the abolition of the local rule which requires traffic to turn to the right on the red light signal. In lieu thereof the Government regulation will prevail, which allows for traffic to proceed either straight ahead or to the right or the left on the green light signal. While the red or yellow light is showing traffic must stop before entering the intersection, and remain stopped while such lights are showing. In order to assist motorists to keep in the proper lines of traffic and avoid confusion at the intersection, instructions have been given for the painting on the roadway of two traffic lanes on either side of the centre of the street, the left-hand lanes to be used by motorists intending to turn to the left and tho right-hand lanes by motorists making the right-hand turn. The lighting device will also be lowered about 3ft so that motorists in small cars can obtain a better view of the signals.
