WHIPPET RACING

DUNEDIN CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING The eighth annual general _ meeting of the Dunedin Whippet Racing Club was held in Mr J. H. A. M'Keefrey’s board room on Wednesday evening. Mr G. N, Kemp occupied the chair. The annual report and statement of revenue and expenditure were read by the chairman, who in formally moving their adoption congratulated the club on its successful year’s operation, specially mentioning the sundness of the club’s finances. He again stressed the necessity for more local breeding, and stated that the dearth of pups in Dunedin was borne out by the very small number of puppy races that bad been run during the year. Mr H. F, Payton, in seconding the motion, said the club was to be congratulated on the report. He also referred to the sound financial position, and, although the club was just in its infancy, he felt sure that the near future would see it the premier club of the Dominion. Mr Payton complimented the president on his work during the year, and also expressed his appreciation ox the loyalty and co-opera-tion of the members of the committee. Referring to the social side of the club’s activities, Mr Payton congratulated the ladies on their good work and also the hon. secretary (Mr J. M. Rodgerson), who, with the president, had helped considerably to better the club’s position. The motion was carried unanimously. The Chairman referred to the association shield, and said that he was pleased ot inform the meeting that permission had been granted the club to rac.e for the shield at a meeting to be held in October. The committee was empowered to fill any vacancies that might occur from time to time. The incoming committee was recommended to consider the advisability of appointing a steward to act at the “ call end ” of the track. It was also recommended that two sets of white hurdles be left on the track for training purposes. Eleven new members were elected. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr F. Tanner; president, Mr G. N. Kemp; vice-presidents—Messrs H. F. Payton, J. S. Algie, W. T. Guthrie, W Smith. R. Wilson, H. A Edmonds, R. E. Brown, and E. M. Sheed; hon. secretary, Mr J. M. Rodgerson; hon. treasurer, Mr E. G. Price; committee—Messrs W. H. Turner, J. J. Berry, W. Gallaway, G. Little, T. Hodges, C. A. Hensleigh, W. Cumberbeach, and J. Manly; hon. handicappcr, Mr J. M. Rodgerson; identification stewards, Messrs E. G. Price and W. T. Guthrie; association officials at start of races—Messrs T. Hodges, G. Berry, and J. M. Rodgerson; scribe, Mr C. A. Hensleigh; auditor, Mr H. F. Payton.
