PEACE POSTERS

THE JOHANNESBURG EXHIBITION NEW ZEALAND CHILDREN’S WORK The Johannesburg branch of the League of Nations Union invited the ydung people, including school children, of the British Empire to send peace posters for a disnlay at the great Empire Exhibition lield in Johannesburg last year. .... , „ The cities of South Africa naturally sent a large contribution; London sent posters, and so did Hongkong, the work of young Chinese, many of whose designs were of great beauty. Indeed, the conceptions were of amazing variety, and the execution attained by the prize-winners reached a high standard. The only one of all the dominions except South Africa to respond to the invitation was New Zealand, and the credit is due to'the Otago branch of the League of Nations Union, which sent to Johannesburg some of the poster work which was such a pleasing feature of the Peace Exhibition held in Dunedin last July. In this local exhibition the Technical College and secondary . schools of Dunedin, South Otago, and Southland co-operated, and each was represented in the exhibit sent from New Zealand to the Empire Exhibition. . . It is therefore extremely gratifying to all concerned to hear from the hon. secretary of the Johannesburg L.N.U., who writes as follows:—“ We are very grateful for the loan of your exhibit. The posters are attracting much attention, and all have been much interested in the maps, diagrams, and cartoons, as they picture graphically so much information. I hope to get some of our schools to do something similar next year.” With the letter came some snapshots showing the New Zealand exhibit occupying a prominent place in the display on the walls of the conference hall of the exhibition. It is the intention of the Otago branch of the League of Nations Union to hold another Peace Exhibition in Dunedin about the middle of tbe year.
