NAPIER CRIMINAL SESSIONS JUDGE'S POINTED REMARK [Phb Uwitbd Pirns Association.] NAPIER. February 12. Frederick William Merely was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on each of two charges of theft. Mr Justice Ostler, in passing sentence, said that ho regretted that one of the Crown's witnesses was not standing alongside the prisoner. Percy Raeburn Smyrk, charged with theft as a servant, was found not guilty on His Honour’s direction. The jury acquitted Patrick O’Shannessy of indecent assault. Henry Victor Wright Barke, an engraver (34), charged with committing an unnatural offence and, on two counts, indecent assault on a male at Wairoa, was sentenced to five years’ hard labour. Keith Stewart Dawson, a motor engineer (27), two charges of forgery, two charges of uttering, and also obtaining credit by fraud at Napier, two years’ probation. Anikanara Rangirangi (28), two charges of false pretences at Napier, one year’s probation. Albert Thomas Smith, a labourer (40), theft of a model yacht at Napier, one year’s probation. Joe Waikawa, a labourer (32), two charges of false pretences at Wairoa, one year’s probation. David William M'Birney. a plumber (34). obscene exposure at Napier, one year's probation.
