HIGHLAND PIPE BAND

CAMPAIGN FOR HEW UNIFORMS A meeting of the Finance Committee formed to raise the necessary funds with which to supply the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band with new uniforms was held last evening. In the . of the president (Mr John Hope) Mr Norman Stewart was elected to the chair. The Secretary reported that the campaign was now well under way, and all suggestions from the previous meeting had been carried out. Numerous letters were received from citizens and business firms, wishing the committee the best of success in its endeavour, and expressing appreciation of this worthy object with donations towards the fund. The Treasurer reported an extremely gratifying response to circulars posted during the past fortnight, and suggested that with a continuance of the present ready response the objective of £3OO would be reached very shortly, as the amount received to date was now m the vicinity of £l5O. The chairman, in congratulating members on their success, suggested that an effort be made to close the fund before the end of February, and urged that all donations previously promised be collected if possible during the coming week. All collectors present reported a ready response from citizens and business firms called on during the past week. Letters were received from the Scottish Society of Otago and the St. Andrew’s Society, both societies requesting the presence of members of the band at their respective monthly socials. f One new member was elected to the committee, this being Mr R. S. Black, who has recently returned from abroad. Mr Black expressed his willingness to do anything possible to assist the band, which had so worthily upheld the name of Dunedin in all parts of the Dominion when competing in championship contests.
