VALUABLE NEW DRUG
NOT A SECRET FORMULA AT DISPOSAL OF MEDICAL PROFESSION Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 29. In connection with Sir Graham Little’s statement in the House of Commons that mortality in cases of puerperal fever treated with the new drug m Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, London, had decreased from 22 to 2 per cent., he disclosed in an interview that the new drug was named sulphoriamide. It was only revealed to the London Pathological Society a fortnight ago, and is regarded as a great advance in the science of drugs, as it is similar in constitution and possesses less toxicity than many earlier drugs recommended for a similar purpose. There was also a tremendous advantage in that it could best be administered by the mouth. It is not a secret formula or patent, but is at the disposal of the medical profession. It is understood that part of the work on the discovery of the drug was done in England.
