MINIATURE DAFFODILS
Miniature daffodils never fail to captivate, and those who have seen them naturalised by the thousand will not forget the dainty picture the little trumpets make. When making out the bulb list some of these should be included. The best species for a moist soil are N. cyclamineus, the cyclamen flowered daffodil, and the hoop petticoat daffodil N. Bulbocodium. Of the two N. cyclamineus likes the moisten conditions and prefers shade. In shape the flower is unlike any other, with its long, cylindrical trumpet, frilled at the mouth, and the narrow perianth segments reflexed straight back behind. Bulbocodium succeeds either in sun or shade where the soil is moist. Clumps on the rock garden may become congested and need dividing after a few years, hut naturalised in damp grass or woodland or on the banks of a pool it can look after itself.
