THE BROADCASTING SERVICE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—From reports appearing imthe newspapers great things are contemplated in the future so far as the Government broadcasting services are concerned. What was anticipated when the appointment of a director was made by the Government _ is assuredly going to happen. A definite bias is to be noted in practically all the future operations of the programmes from all the YA stations. The spending of the revenue received from radio set owners should be entirely in the hands of an independent board —e.g., that fine institution, the 8.8. C., who has full control over both the programmes and the expenditure of the revenue paid in by those who listen to the programmes. However, the future activities of New Zealand broadcasting, the carrying on of which is paid for compulsorily by all who own radio sets, are to be mainly directed in filling the air with intellectual sounds and noises reminiscent of a dead age. It is a pity that all the Broadcasting Service’s' up-to-date and costly equipment at the YA stations > should be used as a means of whetting the appetite of one man’s eagerness to give the radio users at large only what he considers is good for them to listen to. However, those fortunate radio owners who possess powerful and up-to-date sets will probably be able to disentangle themselves from the powerful waves sent out from the Government stations and listen to something _ more' in keeping with modern entertainment. —I am, etc., , Lux.
