N.Z. CRICKET RECORDS
DOUBLE CENTURY SCORERS In a great first-wicket stand for Canterbury against Wellington on Saturday M. L. Page and W. A. Hadlee put on" 235 before the partnership was broken (says the Christchurch ‘ StarSun ’). This is not quite a record for first class cricket in New Zealand, but, according to the official records available, it is second highest on the list. The best stand for a first-wicket partnership wag 306 by L. A. Cuff and J. 13. Lawrence for Canterbury against Auckland at Christchurch in the 189394 season. Cuff made 176 and Lawrence 123 not out. Other high first-wicket ■ stands for Now Zealand cricket are:— 208—H. C. Blunt (174) and R. de R. Worker (65)', Canterbury v. ■ M.C.C., at Christchurch, 192223. 201 —A. H. Anthony (100) and E, Hors pool (89), Auckland v. Wellington, at Auckland, 1921-25. The Two Hundred Mark. Had Walter Hadlee, of Canterbury, made another six runs he would have joined the select baud of New'Zealand players who have scored a double century in New Zealand first class cricket. Unfortunately, he added only two runs to his ovtr-night score, and was then dismissed leg before to Parsloe, for 194. It was bad luck. M. L. Page, with 206 in 1932 against Wellington, has the distinction of being the highest scorer for Canterbury in first class cricket. According to figures supplied by Mr T. W. Reese the following are the 10 New Zealand players who nave scored a double century in New; Zealand first class cricket; —' R. C. Blunt, 338, for Otago against Canterbury, 1931-32. W. Carson, 290, for Auckland against Otago, 1936-37. S, G. Smith, 256, for Auckland against Canterbury, 1919-20. F. Midlane, 222 not out, for Wellington against Otago, 1914-15. R. C.
