RUNNERS’ DISPUTE
PAPER DELIVERY DELAYED [Per United Press ~ Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, January 5. The evening newspapers in Christchurch were not delivered to subscribers to-night and were not on sale in the streets because of a dispute between .the companies ■ and the runners. The morning . newspapers will not be de- - livered by the ordinary staff of runners, but arrangements have been made for their distribution. ■ Efforts have been made for some days to settle the dispute, but the increased remuneration offered by the companies was rejected by the men. One offer made to the men as an alternative to the present method of payment was that they should be given a weekly wage, which would be subject to an award of the Arbitration Court. This offer was also rejected.
