COULDN’T COPE WITH BUSINESS

AUCKLAND TAXIS IN HOLIDAYS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, January 5. Despite the fact that one Auckland company had 200 cars on the road for the holiday traffic and another company 80, Auckland taxis at peak times were unable to cope with the volume of business offering. The sequel has been complaints to the City Council of speeding and overcharging, and these are now being investigated. The By-laws Committee states that the majority of the Auckland taxi drivers conducted the holiday business in accordance with the bv-laws regarding fares and speed. The taxi companies aver that their work was carried out strictly in accordance with the by-laws.
