AGED PARISIAN’S WISH TO END LIFE

A hearty contempt for the public Press has exacted a heavy penalty in the case of an aged Parisian, who was found unconscious in his gas-filled room early on a recent morning. After being revived with difficulty he explained that he never read newspapers, and' had not known that there was to be a “black-out” exercise in passive defence against aircraft the night before. The result was that, when the lights suddenly went out and aeroplanes appeared; overhead, he , at once made up his mind that the threatened wan had at last arrived. Life under such conditions seemed unbearable, so he carefully sealed up the room, turned on the gas, and prepared to die. Owing to Jus great age—he is 85— hia _ condition still gives cause ‘for anxiety, but it is hoped that a grim comedy will have a happy ending.— 4 Th© Times.’
