SUNDAY SERVICES

At First Church the Rev. W. Allen Stevely’s subjects will be, in the morning, ‘ The Crowded Inn,’ and in the evening ‘ Good Tidings.’ At the evening service, under the direction of Dr Galway, the choir will render a programme of seven Christmas carols, for which the soloists will be Miss Nettie Bauld, Mrs C. R. Barnett, Mr Alfred Walmsley, Mr T. A. Thomson, and Mr Finnie. Special Christmas services will he held in Knox Church, conducted by Rev. D. C. Herron, M.A. The subject in the evening will he ‘ Why Jesus Came.’ ‘ The Star and the Wise Men ’ will he the subject at St. Stephen’s (Presbyterian) Church,at the morning service, and ‘Our Ascended Lord ’ the subject in the evening. At both services the preacher will be the Rev. Thomas Miller. Christmas services will be held in the Port Chalmers Presbyterian Church. The choir will render a selection of Christmas carols at the evening service, when Miss Margaret Howden will be the soloist. The sacred cantata ‘ Bethlehem ’ will he rendered by the choir at the Maori Hill Presbyterian Church in the evening. Christmas services will be conducted at Trinity Methodist Church, the Rev. C. H. Olds speaking in the morning on ‘ The Angel’s Message ’ and in the evening on ‘ Christmas Carols.’ Miss Phyllis West will sing ‘ A Star Was His Candle,’ and a quartet and chorus, ‘The Angel Gabriel,’ will bo rendered at 7.50, following the evening service. The choir will give a carol service consisting of Christmas solos, trios, quartets, and choruses. Assisting artists will be Misses Margaret Murray, Alison Tyrie, B. Judd, and Heather Smith, and Messrs Evan Tuckwell and Leslie J. Dunbar. The services at the Methodist Central Mission will be conducted in the morning by the Rev. B. M. Tasker and in the evening by the Rev. Leslie B. Neale. Special Christmas music will be rendered by the choir at the evening service. The Rev. J. Ewen Simpson will conduct the services at the Hanover Street Baptist Church, speaking in the morning on ‘Born in a Barn,’ and in the evening on ‘ People Who Missed and People Who Found Jesus.’ The choir will present two carols— ‘ The Coventry Carol’, and ‘We Three Kings of Orient Arc.’ At the St. Kilda Methodist Church Christmas services will be taken by the Rev. T. Skusc. whose subject in the morning will bn ‘ The Shepherd,’ and in the evening ‘ The Wise Men.’ The Rev. Professor S. F. Hunter will 'conduct both services of divine worship at Moray Place Congregational Church, taking as his subject in the morning ‘ Glad Tidings,’ and in the evening ‘ The World Into Which Jesus Came,’ Mr J. D. M'Kechnie will sing ‘ The Holy Child ’ (Easthope Martin), and the trio, ‘ Once Long Ago in Nazareth,’ will he sung by Mrs F. T. Anderson and the Misses Guy and Smith. ‘ The Messiah ’ will be presented at the evening service at United Congregational Church, Albany street, the principals being as follow: —Misses Dorothy Sligo, Alison Tyrie, Messrs F. G. Taplin, J. Hinton (Oamaru), C. Unwin (trumpeter), p. E. Wilkinson (piano), R. Aberncthy (organ), W. R. Sinclair (conductor). At the Greater World Christian Spiritual Mission divine service the Rev. Gertrude Brooks will give an address on ‘ The Holy Child.’ Spiritual clairvoyance and after circle will be held, and the usual circle will be held on Wednesday at 8 p.m. The, . services at the Salvation Army, Dowling street, will he conducted by Adjutant Avenell in the morning. Mrs Adjutant MahatFie wil! address the Happy Hour Gathering in the afternoon. Adjutant Mahaflie will conduct the Christmas carol service at 7 p.m. Special music will be rendered by the band and songsters. At the Theosophical Society there will be an address by Mr Wm. Crawford, general secretary of New Zealand section. His subject is 1 Justice in the World To-day.’ At the Spiritualist Church Mr J. M. M'Ewan’s subject will be ‘The Wise Men of the East,’ and a meeting of members will be held after the service. On Monday, at 8 o’clock, the Healing Centre will meet. 1
