CLUTHA SHOW

SOCIETY'S JUBILEE DISPLAY HORSES AND SHEEP GF HIGH STANDARD The Jubilee (70th) Show of the Clutha and iVLatau A. and P. Society was held yesterday, after having been postponed from last month on account of flood and weather. The weather yesterday was showery in the morning, but as the day progressed it improved, and conditions, although blustery, were quite good. However, the attendance was not nearly up to the usual, as is evidenced by the gate, which netted just under £IOO, compared with £l7O 19s 6d last year. The unpromising morning and the infantile paralysis epidemic accounted in no small measure tor the drop in attendance, while the fact that a large number of cars were parked outside also brought the takings down. The display of stock was, however, well up to standard. The sheep, particularly Romneys, cross-breds ; and fats were of a high class, the judges being unanimous that they were as good as would be seen anywhere. Light horses were well to the fore, and the competitions drew great competition and kept the crowd interested. Cattle were also prominent, but a few exhibitors, previously entered, did not send their stuff forward, tliu rough weather having put the animals back. The draught horse section wa perhaps the outstanding feature of the show, and it is seldom, if ever, that such a line display has been seen. It was proof positive that the draught is again coming into favour with the farmer, and competitors from all parts of Otago and Southland competed against each other yesterday, as many as 15 and 16 animals being seen in some classes. The management of the show generally was good, the president (Mr Adam King) and secretary (Mr D. Wallace! having the assistance of a willing band of workers. The fact that two days were crowded into one, and that everything was over before 4.30 reflects credit on the management generally. An innovation this year was the broadcasting of results by means of a loudspeaker, which also dispensed music. The Balelutha Pipe and B-ass Bands were also in attendance, and enlivened proceedings. The grand parade was a most spectacular event, the display of the prize winners being very line indeed, and a great credit to the district and the exhibitors generally. Following is the prize list:— SHEEP BORDER LEICESTER. Judge: Mr Alex. Murray (Mosgiel). Ram, above 28 months. One entry— A. J. Christie (Warepa) 1 and champion. Ram, under 16 months. Three entries—A.
