MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society held on Thursday afternoon was attended by Messrs I l '. J. Conn (president) in the chair, J. N. Murdoch, J. Hellyer, T. D. Dalzicl, L. C. Hazlett, S. Bowman, B. S. Irwin, J. E. Brunton, D. M. Reid, J. M. Fraser, K. Clark, E. M. North, D. Andrew, J. Mitchell, and W. Lee. The Finance Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to £729 1-1 s.—Agreed. FAT LAMB EXPORT COMPETITION. The Secretary reported that the annual fat lamb competition under the auspices of the society was held at the New Zealand Refrigerating Company’s works at Burnside, when 192 lambs from four districts in Otago were entered for the competition. There was an excellent attendance of farmers and visitors, including representatives of the New Zealand ' Refrigerating Company from Wellington and Christchurch and a visitor from South America. The result of the judging was,as follows: Meat Board’s Competition, the order being that in which the pens of three were selected.—W. H. Bain (Roxburgh), N. Boyd (Taieri), F. Atkinson (Middlemarch), Alexander . Thompson (Taieri), F. C. Johnston (Taieri), J. P. Scott (Roxburgh), R. G. Woodhouse’s estate (Roxburgh), Robert Paterson (Roxburgh), Neil M'Donald (Roxburgh), R. T. Kirk (Taieri), J. .Williamson (Taieri), A. D. Mathieson (Middlemarch), J. Tisdall (Middlemarch), George M'lntosh (Ida Valley), J. Jones (Middlemarch), In connection with this competition the New Zealand Refrigerating Company offered prizes for the best three pens from the Roxburgh, Taieri, and Strath Taieri districts, the winners being Messrs Bain, Boyd, and Atkinson as given above. The pens of Messrs Thompson, Johnston, and Scott were very highly com'mended, highly commended, and commended respectively. * , The results of the A. and P. Society s competitions were as follows: Mnniototo district: Mark Geoffrey (Wedderburn) first, J. M'Lcod and Sons (Ranfurly) second. Middlemarch district: A. D. Mathieson first, J. Tisdall second. Taieri district: F. C. Johnston first, R. T. Kirk second. . _ Roxburgh district: W. H. Bam first, J. P. Scott second. Mr Duthie said the society was indebted to Mr Clark and the New Zealand Refrigerating Company’s staff and the stock and station agents who helped to make the day a success and to the New Zealand Refrigerating Company for the hospitality extended. A special resolution of thanks was passed to Mr Clark and all those who had assisted to make the day a success. NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were elected Messrs W. N. The Corriedale Sheep Society’s challenge cup (valued £5 Ss), for the best Cort’icdale single ram—New Zealand and Australian Land Company Ltd, (Moeraki). Mr George Ross’s (Ardlui, Palmerston) shield (valued £5 ss), for most points in the sheep dog section—John Trotter (Kurow). Mr George Ross’s (Ardlui, Palmerston) silver rose bowl (valued at £5 ss) to the owner of the champion dog at the show trials—M. A. Matheson (Middlemareh). Mr W. S. The Southland Jersey Breeders’ Cattle Club’s £2 as a special prize for most points in the Jersey section—J. Hellyer (Macandrcw Bay). The Jersey Oaks Trophy, presented by the late* G. Milligan (Hastings), valued £ls, for best yearling Jersey bull—J. Hellyer (Macandrew Bay). The New Zealand Refrigerating Company’s Challenge Shield for most points in fat sheep and lambs_ (freezing classes) —R. T. Kirk (Mosgiel) and Evans Bros. (Longbush) equal. A special vote of thanks was passed to Mr R. T. Kirk for supplying cattle for the rodeo events at the show, and to Mr Donald Munro. Palmerston, for providing sheep for the dog trials.
