SLUMS IN CHRISTCHURCH.

TO TUB EDITOB. Sir, —Ft is most amusing to read the account of i\lr Idea's tour through Christchurch looking for the slums of that city. L notice where he asked to he shown the slum area. Is it likely that the people in Christchurch were going to point out their own disfigurements? Mr Lee is either seeing Christchurch through rose-coloured glasses or

else going about with his eyes shut. The next visit he makes to that city, I would advise him to be very much awake and take a walk up over one of the bridges crossing the Avon from Oxford Terrace and right opposite the Anglican Cbu.-cb, and see for himself. Any broad-minded person who has lived in Christchurch, which is ray home town, will never deny that there are slums there, as well as in any other town. Seeing is believing.—l am. etc., Seeing Sights. December 18.
