THE BRIG FORTUNE RECALLED IN EQUITY COURT CASE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyrighl SYDNEY, December IK (Received December 19, at 1.30 a.m.V The story of an old shipwreck, the-' Brig Fortune, off the New Zealand coast, in 1868, was recalled in th# Equity Court to-day at an inquiry into the next-of-kin of Thomas Petley, who died, in June, leaving an estate valued at £9,600. During the hearing of' evidence * faded cutting from a Sydney newspaper’ was tendered showing that Petley’* father, William, master of the Fortune, was drowned with nine others, whil# the sole survivor furnished a thrilling narrative of the sea, explaining that “ Natives appropriated a box with soma sovereigns from the captain’s chest.’* The captain’s son, Thomas Petley, died intestate. The court referred the matter to the Master in Equity.
