BOWLING NOTES

[By Deaw.]

Club secretaries, or those in charge of the social activities of their clubs, ■re invited to send along notices in reference to any club, events. Inquiries relating to the rules of the game will be welcomed. Correspondence addressed to “ Draw ” must reach this office not later than noon on Tuesdaj each week. Questions and Answers. ‘ ‘ Driver ’ ’ writes drawing attention to the poor jacks that are in use on some of the greens, and requests the writer to draw the httention of clubs to the fact. “ Draw ” has on occasions mentioned this subject, and considers he has done sufficient. It is a question for the clubs concerned. “ Hard Head.” —The matter contained in your letter is of a biased nature. If you will write generally on the subject mentioned I may be prepared to assist you. This column is ready at all times to give assistance in promoting the welfare of the game. “ Green Keeper.”—Have posted you a copy of the pamphlet. You enclosed an envelope but omitted to affix a stamp, N.Z. Championships. The entries disclose that six. rinks have nominated from the Dunedin Centre and one from the Central Otago Centre. These include the entire nominations for rinks from south of the Waitaki. It is rather disappointing to hear of such poor nominations from the southern districts, but it is pleasing to know‘that the Wellington entries for the championships are a record tor that district. Fancy, only one rink from the Dunedin Club, which has on occasions sent as many as six to a tourney. There, are two entries from the Caledonian Club, one from- Balmacewen, one from Otago (mixed), and one from St. Kilda. The rink fromxCentral Otago is a good one, and may do well. It is in charge of H. Wilkinson, who is a very fine player, particularly with four bowls. I am sure that it is the wish of all bowling supporters in this district that our Wellington friends will have good weather conditions for the tourney and that it will be a success. Result of Saturday Matches.

Saturday Competition. Roslyn maintained its good position by winning four out of the five sections played by it—-two wins out of three against Dunedin, and two out of two against Green Island. The whole of the four sections were won by narrow margins, and two_ of them were made into wins after ties. Dunedin accounted for Brighton (one section), Port Chalmers (two sections), and one against Roslyn. The mother club will have to do just a bit better if it hopes to be near the top of the tree. Balmacewen played Caversham tour sections and won them all. This was pleasing to the hillites, as they improved their positmn on the ladder considerably* , . .. Logan Park won both its sections, the one against Opoho being in its favour by a single point—s 4-53. West Harbour accounted for Kaikorai in.two sections, and thus obtain the full points. By doing so it is equal with Logan Park and Roslyn, 'each of these clubs having an aggregate of 38 ’with Valley 33. _ . Taieri won the two sections against St. Hilda, but the latter was successful in two sections out of three against Anderson’s Bay. (It should-be noted that the first section mentioned in Monday’s paper as a win for the Bay was incorrect. The figures in the game Claridge r. Daglish were for sotoie reason transposed. St. Hilda won, 6256.) The following clubs secured the limit of points (12),; —Logan Park, Taieri, West Harbour, Balmacewen, Fairfield, Outram; while Waikouaiti, Kaikorai, Brighton, Opoho, Green Island, Tainui, and. Port Chalmers, failed to secure any points. ; Opoho put up a good showing against Logan Park in the one section, winning two of the three rinks and being only one point down on the aggregate, 53-54. Four-rink Championship. In section A, during the week St. Hilda accounted for Anderson’s Bay, 99-78, winning three of the four games. Mooney was the only Bay skip to notch a win. Leith secured a win over Balmacewen, ,85-81, all the games being closely contested. Balmacewen ■won two rinks and a tie occurred in another. Marshall continues to show good form for Leith. Taieri won all four games against Otago, its 'total scores being 102 to 66. Mornington easily accounted for Caversham, the totals showing 92-69 in its favour. Three rinks were won by Mornington, the odd one being a tie. In section B, Dunedin easily won from Tainui, the score cards showing 102-52. Tainui appears to have many promising players, and if some coaching system was adopted for a period it would be for the benefit of tho club generally. The writer is certain there are players in the centre who would be prepared to assist in this direction. North-east Valley gave West Harbour its first defeat. Valley won by 93-75, the handsome win of Kirkwood over Connor being the main factor. The position in this section is that Dunedin leads with no losses, followed by West Harbour and Valley with one loss each. Kaikorai won all four games against •Logan Park, the total scores being 92-50. The four-rink championship games will now stand over until the third week in the new year, when this event •will be continued. After tho section winners are found the final will bo played on February 13. Central Otago Notes. The final games of tho first round of shield matches were concluded Inst Saturdays The greens were fast but a

breeze made play more or leas difficult. The Alexandra division maintains its load, having gained a 10-point win over Cromwell. Results: — . Alexandra v. However, the extra head was won by Eoslyn. The members of the Kaikorai La dies J Club recently held a picnic, at Taieri Mouth. The day was beautifully fine, and a very pleasant time was spent. After lunch games were played and races run. The winners of the quoits competition were Mesdames J. Fraser and 0. B. Upton. Mrs J. B. M‘Connell won tho musical sticks; Mrs R.
