—Notes by E. J. Rees, Llanelly, Wales. — (a) A cook original with C. H. Hollow, of U.S.A. Some years ago an analysis was published by R. J. Allen in his column in the ‘ Govan Free Press.’ (b) Best; but against Lieber in a Flint (Mich.) master’s tourney; Gonotsky took the wcake- 14-17 and drew narrowly with 31-26, 17-21, 27-23, 11-16, 24-20, 15-24, 20-11 x 10-15 x 22-17, 3-7, 25-22, 16-19 x 17-14, 19-24 (!), 30-25 x 32-28, eventually draw. (c) Forces Black's next move. (d) If 31-26 then 7.11 is Black’s best.— Allan. (e) 7-11, 31-26, and White gets through. —Allan. (f) 1-5, 24-20, 11-16 x 26-22, 2-7 (16-20, 22-17, and 19-15 draws easily), 22-17, 7-11, 30-26, 5-9, 28-24, 16-20, 26-22 x 22-18, 27-31 (12-16 x 27-31, 12-8 draws—Allan), 19-15 drawn —Efi Laidlaw v. R. J. Allan, GAME 519.

—Notes by E. J. Rees, Llanelly, Wales.— (a) Not as popular as 11-15, but equally good. (b) 26-22 is best. A. Jordan, in his guide, says text is dangerous. 24-19 was played by A. B. Scott against Jordan. Nathan Ruben went 30-25, 15-22, 25-18 to a draw against F. Pennell in a Michigan tourney. (c) Master play gives 26-19 here; test does not lock very good. (d) The weakness of the white game is now apparent. (e) Black misses a win here bv 3-7, 19-15 (27-24, 6-9-Bw.), 7-10 x 16-19, "etc., B.w. GAME 520. —“ Nailor.”—
