WHAT FINGERNAILS REVEAL Nails are a good guide to character. The shape of the pink’ part only should bo taken into account, although obviously “bitten” nails mean irritability, nervousness, while long curving ones show bad temper. Turn the hand over and examine the mounts. Venus at the base of the thumb, presides over the lighter side of life. Here are indications of love of beauty and a good time; passion is shown hero also, and fickleness. Absence of this mount is bad, showing selfishness and a. dull, cold nature. Apollo, in strong contrast to Saturn, is the mount of sunshine, and lies at the root of the third finger. The cultivation of art and literature, and a kindly disposition, are indicated here. Sensitiveness, love of beauty, sometimes the ■ temperament of the artist. In excess, it shows extravagance, boastfulness, love of dress. ■ Absence of the mount means dullness, a negative personality, and a love of low forms of pleasure. To sum up, a taste for beauty, an appreciation of art, and a charitable and kindly nature are shown by a moderate, well-lined mount of Apollo. Mercury presides over business capacities, and 3s beneath the fourth finger. It shows quickness of wit, intelligence, aptitude for business. Also eloquence, writing facility, and a clear brain, in excess, these talents, may become dishonesty, lying, and treachery, Absence of the mount shows lack of business instinct. A Mercury hand sometimes shows activity in sport, ability at games and cards. Mars, between the mounts of Mercury and the Moon, shows courage. In a good hand, an excess of the mount, though showing rashness, still indicates bravery. In a bad hand, it shows a bullying sensibility, Luna stands for magnetism, romance, poetic feeling, and love of the sea. Absence of this mount means melancholy and extreme sensibility.
