MANCHESTER UNITY

The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Centenary Lodge was held in the Wesley Street Hall/.N.G. Brq. W. Davidson presiding. ' The meeting observed mourning in respect to the late P.P.G.M. Bro. B. H. Rosevear, late permanent secretary of the lodge. Several members made reference to the loss the lodge and order had sustained by his passing, and a resolution of sympathy with the late brother’s relatives was carried, members standing in silence. A number of visiting brethren, on : behalf of their : various lodges, also spoke, indicating the high esteem in which Bro. Rosevear was held throughout the district. Joining the Hand and Heart Lodge some 30 years ago, Bro. Rosevear took a keen interest in the order, passing through the lodge chairs in 1912, and attaining district honours in 1923. His work as a ritualist was of a high standard, and he was a valuable member of the team of past grands which delivered the purple and past officers degree lectures. Bro. The district officers, assisted by visiting brethren, later installed the following officers - N.G.,.8r0. A. W. M'Lean; Y.G., Bro. J. I. Thomson; E.S., Bro. A. Feather; warden, Bro S. L. Walker; guardian, Bro. R. M‘Leod; G.M., Brq. A. A. Johnston. The new officers suitably responded. A presentation of a 50-year membership medal was made to P.G. Bro. W. L. Craig by the P.D.G.M., who paid a tribute to the recipient’s work for the lodge over a period of 40 years. During that period ho had been a regular attender and had twice passed through the chair, being also one of the founders of the Taicri Juvenile Lodge. Recently he had been appointed a trustee, and was always willing to give service in any capacity. An apology for inability to be present was received from the P.G.M.. Bro. Hey, who was attending a meeting at Kaitangata. The Oddfellows’ toast was accorded Bro. Craig, who thanked members for the kindly sentiments expressed. The N.G. of Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge responded to the visitors’ toast. At the close of the meeting members were entertained at supper. The Loyal Caversham Juvenile Lodge held its final meeting of the year on Thursday evening, N.G. Bro. Clarke presiding. On the completion of business, the lodge adjourned in order to carry out “parents’ evening.” There was a large attendance of members and adults, who were treated to an excellent variety entertainment, the following contributing acceptable items : Miss M‘Lachlan (sword dance), D. Finnerty, A. Brian. J. Isaacs, and B. Frazer (tap dances). Miss J. Wildon, Bros. Dunn and A. Hey (recitations), and Bro. J. M'Gregor (songs). The newly-elected president, P.G. Bro. V.
