UNEMPLOYMENT

NATIONAL WORKERS' MOVEMENT The last general meeting of the year was held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday evening before a fair attendance of members. Owing to the absence of the president (Cr Silverstone), who was in Wellington, Mr R. Pollard occupied the chair. A large amount of important correspondence was dealt with. The secretary was instructed to get in touch with the Placement Officer with regard to certain matters affecting the unemployed. The organising report showed that five members had joined up since last meeting, 15 had been transferred to other unions on receiving full-time work, and the membership at present stood at 950. A few complaints about the attitude of some of the gangers were again tabled, and it was agreed that any serious complaints should be sent in to the executive for investigation in future. The compliments of the season were tendered to the executive for the effective way the organisation had been carried out during the year, the chairman thanking the members for their good wishes.
