DOUGLAS CREDIT

ANNUAL MEETING Of MOVEMENT The annual meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Douglas Social Credit movement was held last night, Mr H. K. Bullock presiding. The secretary (Mr H. Chiles), in presenting the annual report and balance sheet, said that, despite disappointments and difficulties, the past year had been successful in many directions, particularly regarding the spreading of Douglas Social Credit knowledge in Southland and Central Otago, where little work had been done prior to the last General Election. Mr D. M. Sherwood, of London, who had lectured successfully in Dunedin, had given several well-attended lectures in these country districts and had started several active branches in many towns. Other speakers had also given country addresses, and further addresses were pending. The committee had conducted a stall at the Winter Show, and literature had been sold and distributed during Show Week. The Dunedin branch had received a visit from Mr M. Dunningham, who is touring New Zealand in connection with the proposed visit of the Earl and Countess of Tankerville and the Dean of Canterbury. _ It was decided to support these visits, and the sum of £6O had been promised as Dunedin’s contribution towards _ expenses. The secretary concluded his address with an expression of thanks and appreciation to the various speakers who had addressed weekly meetings, and to the committee for its good work during the year.

The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £22 Is 4d at November 30, but some commitments had yet to be met, and the balance would be reduced to £7 19s,

The report and balance sheet were adopted.

Office-bearers were elected as follow”. —President, Mr A. J. Down; vicepresidents—Miss M. King, Messrs F. Keane, I. Sutherland, C. E. Merric, H. K. Bullock; secretary and treasurer, Air H. Cados; auditor, Mr W. G. Davies; lecturer, Miss M. King; committee—Airs Page, Alessrs Livingstone, Patey, Porter, Stephen, Logan, and F. Sutherland. '

It was decided that the committee be instructed to seek now meeting rooms moro centrally situated. At the close of business Air Bullock expressed his gratification at the steady growth of the movement. There was evident a striking change in public feeling, and this was particularly so in .Southland. Up to throe months ago he had been the butt of jests and gibes whenever he mentioned Social Credit, hub now he was being listened to. This was no doubt partly due to the untiring efforts of Air D. C. Davie, who was endeavouring to stimulate interest in Southland. Air Davie had delivered a series of addresses from station 4ZP, and these had had far-reaoh.ing and appreciably results..
