SALVATION ARMY WORK
NEW MATERNITY WING OfENEft GOVERNMENT'S £SOO GIFT [Pm United Pubes Association.] WELLINGTON, December 8. The Governor-General opened the new wing of the Salvation Army’s Bethany Maternity Hospital this morning. There was a large gathering of health and hospital authorities. The wing provides 21 more beds additional to 181 existing in the six other such institutions in the Dominion. Lieutenant-commissioner Adams, in expressing appreciation of the support given by other than officers, thereby cringing the total to £5,266 towards the cost of the new wing, paid a tribute to the Government’s £SOO. The Hon. P. Fraser spoke warmly of the Government’s appreciation of this work, and Mr Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, spoke enthusiastically of the work done by the Army in the city, stressing its wide field. Lord Galway welcomed the increasing prevention of mortality in maternity cases, and particularly appreciated the work of the Salvation Army in this direction. , The new wing is chiefly for single girls, but contains a number of private beds, which it is hoped will defray the cost of the wing.
