LATE MR P. C. NEILL’S PROPERTY
PURCHASE OF PORTION BY CITY COUNCIL The City Council last night approved of the purchase recommended b.y the Finance Committee of portion of the property of th'o late Mr P. C. Neill at North-east Valley for recreation purposes. “ It would have heen_ criminel neglect of the children of North-east valley had the council not taken advantage of the offer,” said Cr Munro. There was no recreation ground m the north end until they caino to the North Ground nr Logan Park, and the North-east Valley proposal would be a great benefit to the city in the future. Cr Batchelor said that in addition to providing a magnificent picnic ground, there would be sufficient area tor two football grounds as well as tennis courts. Cr Cameron said he heartily supported the recreation ground proposal, and congratulated Cr Batchelor on the immense amount of time he had devoted to the scheme in order that it would successfully materialise. Cr Silvcrstone said that credit was due to Cr Bcgg, who had drawn the attention of the committee to the desirability of obtaining portion of the ground for a recreation area. Had it not been for Cr Bcgg tlm council might have missed this splendid opportunity.
