SURF BATHING
STATE OF BEACHES NECESSITY FOR CAUTION The temperature of the water at St. Clair and St. Kilda is fairly mild at present, and increasing numbers of devotees of the surf are being enticed to the sea. Unfortunately, the beach at bt. Clair is still below its normal state, although the sand is coming back towards the baths _ end. There is a deep channel close inshore, in front or the esplanade, and in the absence of flags Gathers are warned to exercise extreme care in. selecting a place tor swimming. The beach is much firmer towards the St. Kilda end. _ ... At St. Kilda the beach is m fair order, but there are one or two slight rips, both towards St. Clair and Lawyer’s Head. There is a good place for bathing in front of the beach entrance, towards the St. Clair side, but swimmers are urged to bo very careiul wherever they choose to swim on tne beach at present. "
