PANIC IN NEWFOUNDLAND SHOWER OF METEORS OVER ISLAND. free* Association —By Telegraph—Copyright ST. JOHNS (Newfoundland), October 19. Investigation of reports that aeroplanes on fire were falling into Fortune and Trinity Bays this afternoon disclosed a shower of meteors over the island. The illuminations were so brilliant that even at midday people rushed to windows in panic, one small settlement believing the end of the world had come. A huge ball of fire with a trail of white smoke fell in Fortune Bay, setting fire to a fisherman’s boat.
