(Received October 16, at 10.15 a.m.) Two persons were killed and 60 injured, the latter including three British police officers, in rioting following an attack by Moslems on workers who were digging the foundations of a Hindu temple, which, owing to the widening of a road, is to be rebuilt nearer a mosque at Byculla. The stoning and stabbing of pedestrians developed in numerous other centres. Forty arrests were made. OUTLOOK SERIOUS BOMBAY. October 15. (Received October 16, at 11.45 a.m.) The victims of the riots now number 13 killed and 100 injured. The latter include seven British police. Fifty arrests were made. With nightfall the rioting became more aggressive. People were assaulted and slabbed in the side streets. It is thought that the infantrv may be called out. To-morrow’s outlook is serious, although the leaders of the rival communities are exploring the possibilities of a, compromise.
