AIR MAIL SCHEME
ENGLAND-AUSTRALIA FLYING BOAT SERVICE 0 AGREEMENT ON MAJOR ISSUES Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright CANBERRA. October 14. The 4 Sun ’ representative says: An agreement has been reached on all the major issues in the England-Australia flying boat air mail service, and contracts are now being prepared for ratification by the British and Commonwealth Governments. An important concession to Australia is that Britain lias accepted the proposal for the retention of the surcharge of sixpence on all outward mails from Australia. The surcharge will decrease to the ordinary company rate as the volume of mail increases. Australia will have full control of the Sydney-Singapore section of the Empire route. It is believed that New Zealand’s participation in the Empire service is now certain, and details of Australia’s share in the transtasman link are now being worked out by the authorities here and in'the Dominion.
