Conditions made play impossible, ami alter the speeches had been delivered tea was served and an informal afternoon was spent. Mrs H. Kane, president of the association was particularly pleased to declare the season open, she said, as it also marked the official opening of the No. 2 green. A steady progress had been maintained since the opening of the first green some six years ago, and confirmation of the progress made was given by' the aim to secure a third green. Cooke, who had performed a great deal of hard work for the association. Mrs Kane also thanked the cluhs for their support in the past, and appealed for an increased memberhsip. Mr It. Hanning, on behalf of the New Zealand Bowling Council, congratulated the association on the progress it had made. The ladies should be very proud of themselves, he said, now that they
had two fine greens. The committee had carried out excellent work, and he wished the players a prosperous and happy season. Mr J. H. Hinton„ president of the Dunedin Bowling Centre, said he regarded it as a privilege and a pleasure to be present and to wish the association a happy season. It had his warm support, and he assured the ladies that he would give them every assistance. It was not necessary to be a good bowler to derive enjoyment from the games, he said, and it should be a pleasure to any bowler to note the enjoyment the ladies received from the game. On the invitation of Mrs Kane, Mrs W. J. Thompson, captain of the Otago Ladies’ Bowling Association Chib rolled the first ball on the No. 1 green, and Mrs Cooke, secretary of the association, carried out the same ceremony on the No. 2 green.
