The annual conference of the Labour Party was opened at Edinburgh, Mrs J. L. Adamson presiding over an attendance of about 750 delegates. In her speech sho demanded the abolition of the household means test and criticised the Government housing programme. Referring to the international situation, she demanded the strengthening of the League. What was needed, she said, was readiness on the part of statesmen to act upon the convictions of the peoples they represented. The chief desire of the peoples was for peace.
