The Hon. F. Waite. M.L.C., came to Dunedin from Balclutha by the through express this morning. ; ‘ Mr A. Campbell, M.P., and Mr J. A.Roy, M.P., travelled north, en route to Wellington, by the 11.35 train this morning. The Rev. Robert Blair, of Owaka, was a passenger to Dunedin by the through train to-day. Mr F. hi. Brown left by the express this morning for Christchurch. Mr W. T. Hildreth, who has been attending the Anderson’s Bay anniversary celebrations, left for Wellington by the express to-day. Mr T. M. Ball, who has been appointed to the position of inspecting engineer at the head office of the Public Works Department, was congratulated on his promotion at the monthly meeting of the Taieri River Trust yesterday, high appreciation of his work as chairman of the trust also being expressed by members. Mr Ball, responding, said he had always taken the keenest interest in the activities of the trust, and. although his new appointment would mean that his association, with that body would be terminated, he would continue to watch its work with unabated interest. Members of United Congregational Church 'Choir offered their felicitations to Miss Doris Taylor and Mr (Jordon Johnstone on the eve of their marriage. The conductor spoke of the valued service rendered by these two members of the choir, and presented them with a token of goodwill from their fellow-choristers. Mr Johnstone made an appropriate acknowledgment. At last night’s annual meeting of the Otago Centre of the Piping and Dancing Association of New Zealand, the president, Mr Albert Wheeler, made referenc© to the death of Mr John Gold, of Balclutha. Mr Wheeler said Mr Gold had been a well-known figure m South Otago, and he felt sure all would agree that he had been a great worker for piping and dancing, especially in tbs Balclutha district. The association would be the poorer fsr his passing. A resolution of sympathy with his relatives was passed. . . Mr Robert M'Laren, principal of the Greymouth Technical College, tendered his resignation to the board after 49 years’ service as a teacher. The Rev. F. B. Redgrave, vicar of Fendalton, has been appointed by Bishop West-Watson a canon of Christchurch Cathedral, replacing Canon H. Williams, who has retired. Latest guests at the Grand Hotel are Mr J. T. Gailey (Glenbank, HolywoOd, North Ireland), Dr and Mrs 0. G. Gough (Geelong), Mr P. M. Butler (Wellington), Mr and Mrs P. F. Mann (Christchurch), Miss Lambie, Miss Robinson, and Mr A. Robinson (Ashburton) , Mr and Mrs W. Bond and Miss Bond (Dunrobin), and Rev. NoelLuker (Bluff). _______
