TAIERI POULTRY SHOW
AN OUTSTANDING EXHIBITION The Coronation Hall, Mosgicl, presented an animated scene this afternoon _ when the annual show of the Taieri Poultry Society was opened to the public, showing over 500 exhibits of poultry, cage birds, pigeons, children’s pets, and produce. Thanks to the committee’s arrangements, all exhibits were so staged that the patrons could see everything at its best. The championship allotted to the show made additional attraction. They were as follows: —Black orpington male (open class), old English game cockerel, and utility Australorp, male. No awards w’ere available this afternoon, but it was interesting to note that the open class poultry catalogued were from well-known fanciers such as Mr J, A. Boswell (Dunedin), Mr C. Bartley (North-east Valley), Mr F. G. Hanson (Dunedin), Mr W. H. Pickford (Invercargill), Mr B. Kelly (Ashburton), Air G. H. Nicoli (Ashburton), Mrs H. J. Dale (Kaitangata), Air Robert Drysdale (Gore), Mr H. G. Sime (Kaikorai), Air W. H. Alee (South Dunedin), and many local and Taieri breeders. The utility classes, which were judged by Mr J. G. Gobbe, Christchurch, were largely filled from local fanciers, -but outside names included Air AI. Carson (South Dunedin), Alessrs Wright and Cleaver (Milton), Air S. Peoples (Kaitangata), Air W. Keen (Balclutha), Mr W. G. Al'Donald (St. Hilda), Air J. Sanders (Dunedin), Air A. C. Goodlet (Dunedin), Mr T. Robinson (Wakari). Air S. Riach (Balclutha), Air E. W. Proctor (Caversham), Air P. S. Hitchcox (Dunedin), Air A. L. Haddon (Dunedin). Air A. S. Barrett (Dunedin), and Air D. AFLennan (North-east Valley). The largest exhibitor in bantams was Air E. J. Wilson (Alosgiel), but he was well supported by Air K. Turnbull (St. Clair), Miss Vera Crozier, and Air J. AFNab. There was a very small entry in fancy pigeons, the only exhibitors being Aliss Vera Crozier (Alosgiel), and Air F. R. Brown (Dunedin). Flying homers were the opposite, drawing 71 entries by well-known breeders mostly from Dunedin—Aliss N. Ruxton, and Alessrs W. Everett, W. Hargreaves, R. Fitzgerald, John Cameron (South Dunedin), A. Lucas (Green Island), Thos. Dee, Airs S. Robson, and Aliss Holland (Gore). A new class—budgerigars—made a special attraction. There were 46 entries spread over 26 different varieties. These entries were principally from Alessrs Braden and Bridges, Thos. Douglas, H. R. Wilson, H. A. Binnie, W. AFDonald (all of Dunedin), and Mr Wm. AFDonald (Ontram). The cage birds covered a wide range of Norwich and Yorkshire canaries. Alessrs T. L. Raines, AI. Simpson, H. Williams, W. Cox. C. W. Napier, H. N. Pine, D. A. Tudor, G. Still, and Thos. Douglas (all of Dunedin) were the principal exhibitors. There was a good entry of produce and honey, which sections were judged by the officers of the Government Agricultural Department.
