BOWLING

OPOHO CLUB The annual general meeting of the Opoho Bowling Club was held on Tuesday night, the president (Mr W-. Dryden) being in the chair. There was » fair attendance of members. In opening the meeting Mr Dryden briefly referred to the death of the club's patron (Mr Oswald Reilly), members standing a moment as a mark of respect to his memory. The adoption of the report arid balance sheet was moved by the chairman, who stated that it was a remarkably fine achievement for a club to be "able, after one year's play, to have a credit balance with no outstanding debts. This, he said, was in great measure due to the energetic co-opera-tion of the Ladies' Club. Mr Somerfield seconded the motion and dwelt on the difficulties confronting a new club, but he felt sure that in the coming season these would be overcome. The greatest drawback had been the lack of a water supply, but the club had come to an arrangement with the City Council whereby this would be remedied before next opening day. The following office-bearers were elected:—Patron; Mr J. Pearson; president, Mr W. Dryden; vice-presi-dents, Messrs R. A. Johnston and A. P. Scott; secretary, Mr P. Durant; treasurer, Mr H. Taylor; committee — Messrs Logan, Somerfield, Robertson, Asher, Butler, and Hendra; green superintendent. Mr A. Somerfield; selectors, Messrs Hutton and Somerfield; delegates. Messrs Dryden and Johnston; honorary auditor, Mr A. Esquilant. The Secretary stated that the club had now affiliated with the Dunedin Bowling Centre and would be entering competition play this coming season. Mi- Dryden urged all members to make a special membership drive. He said a number of people bad not joined last season as the green had not been in good order, but he could assure intending members that every effort was being used "to effect a 100 per cent, improvement, and, he was quite sure those efforts be crowned with success. The report given by the secretary on the results of the euchre parties being held every Monday evening in the Tea Kiosk was considered gratifying.
