Arising out of the death of Mrs AJic® Wilson, aged 69, who was killed as (the result of being struck by a motorcar driven by Mrs Kathleen Ad* Hughes, in Church street, on May io % an inquest was held before the coroner/ and. simultaneously before justices ?of the peace Mrs Hughes was charged with negligently driving the car. thereby causing the death of Mrs Wilson. 7 The coroner returned his verdict t<> the effect that the deceased died from haemorrhage and body injuries through being struck by a car driven by Mr* Hugaes. f urther evidence’was then heard oa the police charge. Senior-sergeant- Moriarty said tha accused in a statement said she was travelling at 15 miles an hour over the crossing. She did not see anything prior to her car striking the woman. Her attention was attracted by tha lights of an approaching car. Counsel for the defence said tha accident was the result of the foolish but well-meaning advice of people who told the deceased to riin. If that were the opinion of the Bench it should dismiss the case. A witness, who was a passenger; m the car, said he did not thimr tha car was travelling more than 20 miles an hour at any stage. The defence called evidence to show that the speed of the car was 15 miles per hour, and that the driver sounded the horn. v The - Bench considered that a prim* facie case had been made out, and committed the accused for trial.
