GAELIC SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Gaelio Society of New Zealand (Incorporated) ■was held last evening in the Returned Soldiers’ Association club room. Chieftain W. H. M'Leod acted in the absence of the chief. Accompanied by; Chieftains Kenneth Macdonald, Alexander M‘Kenzie, and Angus M‘Lennan # he was piped to the, platform by Piper Kenneth Cameron to the air ‘ Highland Laddie.’ Before commencing the programme, the Chairman called upon Piper K. Cameron to play a lament as a last tribute to the memory of Marie French. N A typically Highland programme as presented. The first items on the programme were two Gaelic songs by the Gaelic Choir, ‘ Faill-ill-o agus horo eile ’ and * Gaol nan Cruinneag.’ The Dunedin Pipe Band was in attendance and enlivened the proceedings with two selections. The vocalists bn the programme were as ' follow:—Miss AMatheson,; songs, 4 An Eriskay- Love Lilt’ and ‘Pulling, the Sea Dulse’;! Mr Angus Cameron Robertson, Gaelio song, ‘ Eilean A Cheo ’ and ’ Lovely Jessie ’; Miss Kennedy and Bard Angus M‘Lcnnan, v duet, Gaelic songs, ‘An t Eilean Nuilcach ’ and ‘ Cruachaw Beann.’ Opening the second part of the programme, the choir sang ‘ Fear s’Chatee ’ and ‘ An Clninn thee mi mo niglican donn,’ Mr J. D. M'Kechnie sang ‘ To-morrow ’. and ‘ Drink to. Me Only with Thine Eyes,’ and Mrs B. M‘Rae the Gaelic song ‘ Eilean mo gra’ Miss Pat Atkinson’s pupils danced the rational dances, Misses D. Lament, Shirley Smith, Eileen Carrie, and Iris Todd danced The fling. Miss Letty Barclay the Irish, jig,- Misses N. Beissel and Norma Marshall the sean triubhais, and Miss Mavis Beissel the sailor’s hornpipe. Mr Allan Stait gave e selection on the national instrument. _ Miss George played the accompaniments, and Miss A. Kennedy tvas accompanist to the choir.
