SALVATION ARMY APPEAL.

TO THZ EDITOR. Sir, May I remind I the friends of the needy that, while conditions generally are very much improved and our appeal lists steadily diminishing, there are still many who must be helped by a ministry of love, many almost broken 'and beaten hy the fierce battling with poverty during recent years? We must see them through; therefore I confidently ask for some extra donations to assist ns with the increased winter requirements. , _ _ ' The, winter is passing beautifully, with only one sad note as far as I ant concerned. At the close of winter comes the handing over of my keys of office and the retirement years overdue on account of my earnest desire to remain on active service being favourably considered by my superior officers. Now the extension of time has expired, and Captain May Dickinson, who has been with me for years both in Christchurch and Dunedin, has been appointed my successor. , My retirement,is definitely fixed for August, and my successor takes over with the assurance that the Dunedin public will uphold and help her. I will greatly miss the Police Court and probation work, but I cannot imagine my days without a service of love to the sad and afflicted. While my health and strength lasts my joy will be to serve others. May the blessing of Heaven rest upon our beloved city, Dunedin. If we are worthy of the best the best will come to us. Thanking everybody for long continued kindness, and asking a continuance of same for my worthy successor until all the clouds and mists of poverty and trouble have passed over.—l am, etc., Hannah L. Coombs. (Adjutant). July 4.
