In a communication which has been sent to the Swedish Shipowners’ Association on behalf of unemployed ships’ officers, it is stated that the outlook for officers is very black, since more and more cargo vessels are either being sold abroad or broken up without being replaced. From 1932 until April, 1933, the total number of Swedish vessels sold abroad was 154, and, of these, 62 were from the port of Gothenburg. At this port only 20 vessels were newly registered, and, of these, 15 belonged to the liner and other big companies,- so that there was no chance of unemployed cargo boat officers obtaining a job. It is stated that, except in isolated cases, it is only the liner companies that replace tonnage sold; the cargo vessel companies go into liquidation. Unemployment of officers is. therefore, likely to be permanent unless special measures are taken. IN RADIO RANGE, The following vessels are expected to be within range of the undermentioned wireless stations:— Auckland.—For Saturday and Sunday : Matai, Ilanraki, Kaiwarra, Recorder, Niagara, Alcides, Beatus, City of Bavaria, Empire Star, Tynebank, Waiwera.
