VICTORIAN POTATOES

OUTBREAK OF DISEASE Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, July 3. For many years New Zealand potatoes have been excluded from Victoria owing to the alleged existence of corky scab. An outbreak of corky scab has now been discovered in the potato crops in the Otway and Beech Forest districts of Victoria. The quantity affected is from 500 to 1,000 tons. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Hogan), himself a potato grower, has decided to allow the marketing of the affected crop subject to strict inspection. The districts concerned are the finest potato-growing areas in Victoria.
