PROGRESS OF DEEP GREEK SCHEME The city engineer’s report on the progress of works in connection with the Deep Creek water supply scheme during the last two weeks shows that the pipe laying by the department’s own employees on the section from Stoney Knowe to the Ross Creek Reservoir is proceeding satisfactorily, and that 2,448 ft of trenching. 2,161 ft of pipe laying, and 1,786 ft of back-filling were completed duiing the period, hortjnine men are employed on this wore. The contractors for the Taieri River bridge have completed all riveting on the half-arch on the Mount Hyde side, and riveting on the left bank will be finished in about a week’s time. All deck steel so far placed has been riveted. The steel work erected has received one coat of paint and a second coat has been commenced. The positions of the centre pin castings have been determined and marked, and the drilling of the castings Kras commenced on June 11. Corporation labour has been engaged in draining manholes, putting in scour drains, gauges, etc., and in the erection of a stable at Deep Stream.
