SIXTEEN MILES UP RIVER COLLIDES WITH FERRY GABLES Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, June 17. (Received June 17, at 1.5 p.m.) A 40ft whale swam into the Richmond River and caused a sensation when it collided with the ferry cables at Broadwater while the ferry was midstream, causing it to rock violently. Broadwater is 16 miles from the river mouth. 'Die whale became stranded on the mud flats and attempts made to shoot it failed, the bullets making no impression. The whale later got back into deep water and was last seen heading for .the sea,.
